The injury that limited Justin Blackmon in Oklahoma State’s loss to Oklahoma Saturday will not force the star wide receiver to undergo surgery, head coach Mike Gundy said Sunday.
Blackmon suffered an ankle injury the week before and, while he played against the Sooners, he was not at 100 percent for Bedlam. Gundy expects the receiver to be completely healthy by the time the Cowboys’ bowl game rolls around.
Even as Blackmon was not 100 percent, he still caught eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the loss. It was a performance that even impressed his coach.
“His tolerance for pain is so unbelievably high. ... I didn’t think we’d get hardly anything out of him at all,” Gundy said. “Not to blow his tires up, but it was pretty amazing to have eight catches for over 100 yards. He was not feeling very good.
“We got a lot out of him.”
Blackmon finished the regular season with 102 receptions for 1,665 yards and 18 TDs. He was No. 1 in the country in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, while he was second in receptions per game.
