Rumors are swirling that recently fired Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Dave Wommack is being replaced by former Virginia head coach Al Groh.
ESPN’s Bruce Feldman reported on his Twitter feed that he’s hearing the same rumors and Jeff Schultz at AJC.com is reporting the same rumors on his blog.
The ink is barely dry on the Wommack’s walking papers, so it might be too early to speculate on the new hire, but Groh’s 3-4 system is said to be something that Johnson favors. The Georgia Tech coach was evasive about any rumors today when asked.
“I have no idea where that came from,” Groh Johnson said. “It’s not true. I haven’t hired anybody. There’s probably going to be a lot of candidates. I would think [Groh]'s a guy who would be a great candidate if he’s interested. But I don’t know if he is. He’s collecting a lot of money up there.”
Schultz reports that Groh was in Atlanta before the Orange Bowl, watching a Yellow Jackets’ practice.
Hmm...
