A little over a month after being hit with a drunk-driving charge, linebacker Lyndell Gibson has decided to take his leave of the Virginia Tech football program.
Hokies head coach Frank Beamer announced Monday afternoon that Gibson, along with wide receiver Austin Fuller and cornerback Jacob Sykes, have decided to transfer from the school.
“We certainly wish each of these guys the best of luck and will help them in any way we can,” Beamer said. “With that said, I will not have any further comment on this.”
Gibson started the final five games of the 2009 season, then the first 13 of 2010 before a shoulder injury sidelined him for Tech’s Orange Bowl appearance against Stanford. The shoulder issue would have sidelined Gibson for spring practice, but he was expected to return to his starting spot at the start of summer camp.
Fuller played in ten games last year and finished with one more reception than I did, while Sykes was mainly a backup and special teams player during his time in Blacksburg.
There’s no word on where either of the three will land and continue their collegiate career.
