Hurricane Isaac postpones Nicholls State, Oregon State opener

Two football games -- Louisiana Tech vs. Texas A&M, and South Alabama’s game against UTSA -- have already been affected in one way or another due to Hurricane Issac, which has already hit Louisiana hard on Wednesday.

Make it three games that will be moved because of inclement weather. It was announced Wednesday night that the opener between Nicholls State and Oregon State in Corvallis has been postponed. NSU is located in Thibodaux, La., and there was concern about whether the team could fly out to Oregon on Friday morning.

“It became apparent as the day progressed that the safety of Nicholls State’s team and personnel was a primary concern,” OSU athletic director Bob De Carolis said in a statement. “Many of the Colonels’ student-athletes and staff are with family and there is a deepening concern about their safety in returning to campus. We will continue to discuss the possibility of rescheduling the game.”

The game hasn’t been rescheduled yet since the bye weeks for both teams do not match, although Dec. 1 has been thrown out as a possibility provided OSU is not in the Pac-12 championship game and NSU is not participating in the FCS playoffs.

The Beavers will now open the season on Sept. 8 against Wisconsin.

Tulane will also have an announcement Thursday morning regarding its Saturday home game against Rutgers. As of Wednesday, LSU is still set to host North Texas Saturday evening.
