For the past two seasons, Mike McNeill has been a starting tight end for the Nebraska Huskers.
If the senior is going to make it a starting trifecta, he’ll be doing it from a technically “different” position.
Wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore, speaking in a radio interview by way of the Lincoln Journal Star, said McNeill will be moving to wide receiver. And not just part-time, either.
He’s slotted for the slot 24/7.
“He’s going to be with me full time,” Gilmore was quoted as saying according to the Journal Star. “We’re going to see how it goes. Right now, if you ask me or if you ask Mike, we’re not thinking tight end at all. We’re thinking wide receiver and we’re going to see what he can do.”
McNeill’s 28 receptions in 2009 were good for second on the team, while his four receiving touchdowns were tied for the team lead with Niles Paul. In 2008, McNeill had 32 catches -- third on the team -- and six TD receptions -- good for second behind Nate Swift‘s ten.
