Iowa St. TE meets taser in public intoxication arrest

Iowa State tight end Pierce Richardson apparently had a bit too much to drink over the weekend, the result of which resulted in his arrest.

But not before getting up close and personal with a police officer’s taser.

The Iowa State Daily reports that an Ames police officer responded to a call early Saturday morning “regarding a male that was passed out in the third-floor hallway” at an apartment complex just off ISU’s campus. That “male” turned out to be Richardson, and when awoken by the police officer, Richardson pushed the officer away from him and stood up.

According to the police affidavit, the officer told Richardson to stay on the ground multiple times before Richardson clenched his fists and stepped toward the police officer in “an aggressive manner.”

The result? Taser deployed; Richardson downed. But the sophomore tight end continued to resist arrest by placing his arms underneath his body before other officers arrived and forcibly arrested him. Richardson posted a .169 blood alcohol level and displayed bloodshot eyes, poor balance and slurred speech.

Richardson was charged with interference with official acts and public intoxication. He has since posted bail but has been suspended from the team indefinitely, according to an ISU spokesperson.
