In one of the more ridiculous rifts of the offseason, the University of Tennessee and the town of Pahokee kissed and made up.Two weeks ago, Vols assistant coach Eddie Gran was asked to leave the campus of Pahokee High School, after principal Ariel Alejo decided he was still pissy about comments Lane Kiffin made back in February to a Tennessee booster club meeting after the Vols signed Pahokee recruit Nu’Keese Richardson. While the feelings may have been warranted by Alejo, finding out that the principal was a Florida Gators homer didn’t help his footing. Kiffin already reached out to Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson, but that wasn’t enough for Alejo who said, “Coach Kiffin publicly apologized to Blaze Thompson, but I’m still waiting, and the community is as well."Tuesday, Kiffin apologized over the phone to Alejo and three other Pahokee officials. That was enough for everything to go back to normal, and allow Kiffin to continue to recruit the five football players that UT has offered a scholarship.Pahokee vice mayor Henry Crawford Jr. was happy with how everything turned out. “We got an apology. That’s all we wanted."Hopefully the mayor’s office and the school’s principal will now get back to working on getting the standard of living and the education system in Pahokee up to par.
