As it turns out, UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince wasn’t wearing his mouthpiece when he was leveled on a helmet-to-helmet hit that broke his jaw, the Orange County Register is reporting.
While head coach Rick Neuheisel would not come right out and say it, he strongly intimated that his QB was sans the mouthpiece when he suffered the injury that left him with a jaw currently wired shut.
“He may not have had it in on that play,” Neuheisel said. “There will be a time and place to address it with him. Right now, he’s resting comfortably but we’ll make sure he wears his mouthpiece at all times.”
Prince will miss at least three weeks due to the injury.
As of yet, Neuheisel has not named a replacement for his starter.
