Report: All-American Sooner TE likely out vs. BYU

Multiple reports coming out of both locally and nationally are stating that tight end Jermaine Gresham may miss Saturday’s game against BYU after injuring his knee this week in practice.

ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad was the first to report the injury would likely keep Gresham off the field, while the Daily Oklahoman, citing three sources, confirmed that the TE had been injured. The Oklahoman‘s story, however, wouldn’t commit to Gresham likely missing the game, writing only that "[n]either the severity of the injury nor Gresham’s status for Saturday’s game against Brigham Young are known.”

After catching 66 passes for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns last season -- and eschewing an opportunity to be a first-day pick in this year’s draft -- Gresham’s name littered preseason All-American lists.

Needless to say, the loss of Gresham would be a huge blow to the Sooners’ offense, especially against a quality opponent like the Cougars.

If Gresham can’t go, either sophomore James Hanna or sophomore walk-on Trent Ratterree would start. Combined, the duo has exactly one more career Div. 1-A reception than I do. Gresham’s original backup, Brody Eldridge, was recently moved to center.
