Off to a 1-4 start in his first season as Colorado’s head coach, Jon Embree has been forced to bring down the hammer on a handful of players on the defensive side of the ball.
In a university release, Embree announced that five players have been indefinitely from the football program for “failing to meet the expectations of being a member of the team.” Four of the five suspended players are sophomores: outside linebacker Liloa Nobriga and defensive backs Ayodeji Olatoye, Parker Orms and Paul Vigo; the fifth is redshirt freshman defensive back Josh Moten.
The release notes that all “five are prohibited from engaging in any football-related activity, but are still responsible to meet all academic requirements.”
“We are disappointed that these student-athletes have not lived up to the high expectations we have here at the University of Colorado,” Embree said in a statement. “While not going into specifics, there are no issues with law enforcement, but they have not met their obligations and responsibilities to be active members of the team.”
Orms was the only starter among the five, although he’s injured and likely wouldn’t have played this weekend anyway. Nobriga was the only one of the five who had not seen the field at all this season.
