OK, at least for now.
Earlier today, we noted a report from Rival.com‘s Tennessee website which stated Kevin Steele was leaving his Clemson defensive coordinator post for the same position with the Volunteers.
Apparently, someone forgot to send the memo to the central figure in that scenario.
Speaking to the Charleston Post & Courier Tuesday night, Steele said that he’s still the Tigers’ coordinator and that "[t]here is no news to report.” Steele would not confirm or deny whether he had received an offer from the Volunteers.
Of course, this most certainly doesn’t preclude Steele from ultimately joining new head coach Derek Dooley‘s staff in Knoxville. But, for now, Clemson will not be on the lookout for a defensive leader.
UPDATE 8:33 p.m. ET: According to the Greenville News, Steele reconsidered his decision to leave Clemson after meeting with his players this afternoon, a meeting that was intended to inform them that he was leaving. Now, the paper reports, Steele will make a final decision on Wednesday.
