TCU WR Josh Doctson done for regular season, could return for bowl game

TCU wide receiver Josh Doctson will miss the remainder of the regular season with a wrist injury, head coach Gary Patterson said Wednesday evening. A senior, Doctson could potentially return for the Horned Frogs’ bowl game.

Doctson injured the wrist securing a catch late in the first half of the Frogs’ 49-29 loss at Oklahoma State on Nov. 7. He did not return to the game and played sparingly last week against Kansas.

Despite catching only seven passes for 76 yards and no touchdowns combined over the past two weeks, Doctson still ranks fifth nationally in catches (79), second in yards (1,327) and tied for second in touchdowns (14).

And that, really, is a microcosm of TCU’s entire season: highly talented and fantastically entertaining, yet still well short of potential thanks to untimely injury.

Without Doctson in the fold (not to mention quarterback Trevone Boykin, still a question mark for Saturday), TCU will be decided underdogs this week at Oklahoma and Nov. 27 against Baylor. And considering the 9-1 Frogs already slid to 18th in the latest College Football Playoff poll, a 9-3 TCU team with no quality wins could find itself completely outside the top 25 come season’s end.

That’s not just a bummer for TCU, it’s a major negative for the entire quality-wins-starved Big 12.
