For the second time since February’s National Signing Day, Georgia has lost a member of its 2013 class.
Rico Johnson confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he was not cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and will not play for the Bulldogs in 2013. The issue arose after two online classes the wide receiver took were not approved by the NCAA.
“t’s upsetting, because I did what I was told within the matter of time it was supposed to be done and within the rules,” Johnson told the Journal-Constitution. “It’s upsetting, but that’s life.”
As for his next step, Johnson told the paper that he will wait to hear from UGA on whether to attend prep school or junior college.
Johnson was a three-star member of UGA’s 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 82 receiver in the country by Rivals.com. he was the No. 56 player at any position in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
DeVondre Seymour, the adopted son of former UGA great Richard Seymour, was also a three-star member of the Bulldogs’ latest recruiting class and did not qualify. The offensive lineman will take the prep school route in the hopes of getting back to Athens.
