UConn will be sans its starting QB this weekend

Casey Cochran‘s mini-streak of starts will be halted at five straight as UConn announced Thursday that the quarterback will be sidelined for Saturday’s game against FCS-level Stony Brook. Cochran is dealing with what the school would only describe as a upper-body injury.

However, John Silver of snyuconn.com intimates on Twitter that it could be some type of head injury/concussion situation with which Cochran is being forced to deal.

In the season-opening loss to BYU, Cochran completed 17-of-31 passes for 171 yards and an interception. Cochran started the opening drive of the third quarter, but was replaced by Chandler Whitmer and didn’t return; it’s unclear if that’s related to the injury issue that’s forced him out of this week’s game.

Whitmer, who started the first four games last season, will get the start against Stony Brook.
