Shortly after his announcement to transfer from Missouri to “pursue other playing opportunities”, quarterback Tyler Gabbert reportedly narrowed down his list of potential destinations to four programs -- Iowa, Louisville, Arizona and Wake Forest.
Not mentioned on that initial list was Clemson, although Gabbert’s father, Chuck Gabbert, has since told the Columbia Daily Tribune that the Tigers were indeed in the mix.
Unfortunately for Tyler, that interest appears to be a one-way street.
“Clemson does not have an interest in Gabbert in part because he is not an elite prospect and also because he could dissuade a higher rated quarterback recruit from joining the program in the next several recruiting cycles,” a source told the Charleston Post And Courier. “Tajh Boyd is set to replace Kyle Parker as the Clemson starting quarterback this fall, and Clemson signed three quarterbacks in its 2011 signing class.”
Ouch.
Dave Matter of the Tribune is also reporting that Arizona State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh and Arkansas State are also possible candidates for Gabbert. If Gabbert does transfer to any of those schools, he will be required to sit out one year per NCAA rules.
