  • DET Starting Pitcher #78
Tigers RHP prospect Jackson Jobe was removed from Wednesday’s start for Double-A Erie with an apparent injury.
Not good. The 22nd overall prospect and No. 3 prospect in Detroit’s organization was flexing his left leg and grabbing around his hamstring after a pitch during a Double-A contest on Wednesday. We’ll have to wait and see if there injury is significant, but this could possibly delay 21-year-old’s path to the majors this season. Jobe has a solid 2.63 ERA, 1.17 WHIP with a 19/9 K/BB ratio across 13 2/3 innings at the Double-A level in 2024.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #38
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Wednesday that Tylor Megill (shoulder) will return from the injured list to start on Sunday or Monday.
The 28-year-old right-hander looked sharp in his final rehab start at Triple-A Syracuse, punching out seven batters across four innings of shutout baseball, though he only threw 62 pitches in that start. Expect him to be limited — from a pitch count perspective — the first time that he takes the hill with the Mets.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #67
Giants’ manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Wednesday that Keaton Winn’s forearm tightness is “pretty mild”.
At least that’s the initial diagnosis after Winn left Tuesday’s start with the issue. It still sounds like he’s going to miss at least one start — and could still wind up on the injured list — but the Giants’ aren’t expecting him to miss a significant amount of time. Mason Black is an option to start in his place on Friday.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #44
Joe Musgrove (triceps) is hopeful to return from the injured list to start on Sunday against the Braves.
That’s certainly surprising. Musgrove landed on the injured list on May 5 due to triceps tendinitis and hasn’t really done much except play catch since then. You would think that he would need to ramp back up a bit and require a minor league rehab start before jumping right back into the swing of things — and perhaps he may — but this sounds like he’s much closer to a return than most had anticipated.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #72
Javier Assad continued his strong season with six scoreless innings in the Cubs 7-1 victory in Atlanta. He struck out seven, allowed four hits, and just one walk earning the win.
Unfazed by the Braves’ daunting lineup, Assad was in complete control in this one. Only one runner reached scoring position and he lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.49, good for the fourth lowest among all starting pitchers. He’s lined up for a rematch with the Braves on Monday.
  • CHC Left Fielder #27
Seiya Suzuki went 2-for-5 with a home run, double, and two runs scored in a win over the Braves on Wednesday.
The home run was Suzuki’s first since coming off the IL with an oblique strain. The injury came at an inopportune time with Suzuki slashing .305/.368/.525 with a 151 wRC+ before getting hurt. Wednesday is a great sign that he’s fully healthy and ready to start another hot streak.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #50
Charlie Morton had a rough start Wednesday allowing three earned runs in just three innings. The Cubs had five hits while Morton walked three more and struck out four.
Mike Tauchman homered on the first pitch he saw from Morton and nothing was easy after that. Even the unearned he allowed was on his own poor pick-off attempt wide or Matt Olson at first base. It’s still been a solid season overall for Morton and he’ll take a 3.52 ERA into a rematch against these Cubs on Monday.
  • CHC Left Fielder #40
Mike Tauchmann went 2-for-5 with a home run against the Braves on Wednesday.
Wednesday marked the third straight game Tauchmann has led-off for the Cubs against a right-handed pitcher and he’s hit either first or second in every game against righties since April 23rd. It seems like the Cubs trust him at the top of their order while he stays hot.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
Adolis García went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer to lift the Rangers to a 4-0 win over the Guardians.
García knocked a base hit in the fourth inning, then took Nick Sandlin deep for a two-run homer in the sixth to extend the Rangers lead. The 31-year-old slugger has multiple hits in back-to-back games amid a cold stretch. He hadn’t had two hits in a game since April 21. García is up to ten homers while slashing .259/.306/.494 with 34 RBI and four steals across 183 plate appearances.
  • TEX Second Baseman #2
Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer on Wednesday against the Guardians.
With the game scoreless through four innings, Semien put the Rangers on the board with a two-run blast off Carlos Carrasco in the fifth. It was the eighth home run of the season for the 33-year-old second baseman. Semien is hitting .276/.320/.464 with 33 runs scored, 31 RBI, and one steal across 206 plate appearances. Lack of steals aside, he continues to be one of the top producers at the keystone.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #22
Jon Gray tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Guardians on Wednesday.
Gray’s outstanding run continued on Wednesday with another stellar outing. He held the Guardians scoreless over 6 1/3 frames, stranding four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. After giving up five runs in his first start, Gray has not allowed more than two runs in each of his last eight outings. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 52/14 K/BB ratio across 52 innings. Gray will take on the Phillies on the road next Wednesday.
