Leadbetter Opening Up Academy in Hawaii

WAILEA, Hawaii -- Golf instructor David Leadbetter is opening his first school in the home state of his prized student, Michelle Wie.

Leadbetter has signed an agreement to open a David Leadbetter Golf Academy at the Wailea Golf Club this spring. He currently operates 30 schools in 14 countries.

Leadbetter has worked with many professional golfers including Nick Faldo, Nick Price, Ernie Els, Justin Rose, Charles Howell III, Sean O’Hair and Trevor Immelman.

‘We’re thrilled to be the site of the first David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Hawaii,’ said Anne Takabuki, president and chief operating officer of Wailea Golf LLC.

Wailea Golf Club, on the island of Maui, is one of the largest golf facilities in Hawaii with three par-72 courses. The Gold Course hosts the annual Champions Skins Game.

Terms of Leadbetter’s deal with Wailea were not disclosed.
