Another goodbye to Ochoa

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – There’s another jolting reminder today that Lorena Ochoa’s retired.

She’s nowhere to be found on the newest Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings just released.

The governing bodies who administer the rankings met last week and decided to remove her name.

It’s a good and respectful move given she has announced her retirement and is inactive. It spares Ochoa fans the pain of watching her name just drift down the rankings each week as she loses points because she’s now inactive.

South Korea’s Jiyai Shin holds the No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive week. Ochoa was No. 2 last week after being No. 1 for 158 consecutive weeks. The new No. 2 is Japan’s Ai Miyazato with Taiwan’s Yani Tseng moving up to No. 3 and Norway’s Suzann Pettersen up to No. 4.

American Morgan Pressel jumped eights spots to No. 17 after her victory at the Japan LPGA Tour’s Salonpas Cup.
