Woods to play the Players ATT National

Tiger Woods has committed to play in the Players Championship and the AT&T National.

He’s already scheduled to play next week at Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, N.C., and the U.S. Open June 17-20 at Pebble Beach. The Players is May 6-9 at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, where Woods won in 2001 and tied for eighth last year.

‘This is our event, and it always attracts one of the best fields of the year,’ Woods said about the Players in a statement on his website. ‘It’s a tournament everybody wants to win.’

Woods’ schedule is shaping up to look similar to what it has been in the past. The only missing piece so far is the Memorial Tournament, June 3-6, in Ohio. It is unlikely Woods would go from the Players Championship to the U.S. Open without another warmup in between, which would be the Memorial.

Woods will defend his title at the AT&T National, July 1-4, at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa. It will be a new site for the event, which was contested the last three years at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

‘I’m really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National,’ Woods said. ‘Philly is a great sports town, and I’m excited to play at Aronimink Golf Club.’

Woods made his season debut two weeks ago at the Masters, where he tied for fourth.
