Trattou

An undrafted free agent out of Florida, Trattou appeared in New York’s Week 1 loss to the Redskins before being waived. He’ll provide depth along a fairly banged up Giants’ defensive line.

Trattou sustained a heel/ankle injury during the first week of camp and never recovered. With others on the Giants defensive line sustaining injuries as well, there was no room left on the roster.

Trattou didn’t play in Friday’s preseason opener. The injury is going to make it very difficult for him to crack the 53-man roster. Trattou appeared in six games a season ago, making one tackle.

He’s taking MLB Jonathon Goff’s place on the roster, who has been officially placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL. Trattou could be active against the Redskins on Sunday if Justin Tuck (neck) can’t give it a go.

Trattou goes to make room for Brandon Stokley. It’s a sign that Justin Tuck (neck) should be able to play Monday night. Trattou will head back to the Giants’ practice squad if he clears waivers.

As an ERFA, Trattou either had to take the deal or leave the NFL. He spent 2012 on injured reserve with a heel/ankle injury.

The longtime reserve appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings last season, playing 10 snaps on defense.

Trattou played in five games (23 snaps) last year, but had two interceptions. He’ll compete for a special teams role.

Trattou was waived by the Giants on Tuesday. The Vikings cut DE George Johnson to make room for Trattou. Trattou played on just three defensive snaps with the G-Men this season. He’ll be limited to special teams, if active.

TE Chase Ford was waived in a corresponding roster move. Trattou was waived just three days ago. The obvious takeaway from his return is that the Vikings are getting ready to trade RE Jared Allen, but it’s quite possible the move is just a coincidence. Either way, Trattou is mere depth.
