Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was hoping to begin playing in minor league rehab games by early next week. That won’t be happening now.

According to Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest, the 30-year-old third baseman felt discomfort in his strained left hamstring while trying to run the bases on Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark in Arlington. He’s scheduled to visit a team doctor this evening, so we should all know more about the severity of the setback by Sunday morning.

Beltre has been on the disabled list since July 23. He was batting .276/.318/.505 with 20 home runs and 76 RBI in 421 plate appearances before the injury.

UPDATE, 10:02 PM: Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers are expecting Beltre to miss another three weeks. The third baseman can be ruled out until late August.
