The Houston Astros plan to call up pitching prospect Jose Urquidy. He’ll make his big league debut tomorrow against the Rockies in Coors Field. Which is kinda harsh, but hey, beats the minors.
Urquidy began the season at Class AA Corpus Christi and was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock after eight appearances. He has a 3.40 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 104/15 K/BB ratio across 76.2 innings at both levels. There are many higher-ranked pitching prospects but that K/BB ratio and an increase in velocity this year -- his first full season following 2016 Tommy John surgery -- makes him an intriguing arm.
