Chris Archer finally cools down, walks a batter and strikes out fewer than 10

Rays starter Chris Archer entered Saturday’s start against the White Sox having put together three dominant starts, going at least seven innings, recording at least 11 strikeouts and issuing exactly zero walks in all three outings. He became the first in the modern era to get double-digit strikeouts with zero walks in three straight starts.

He attempted, but failed, to make it four in a row on Saturday. He gave up three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in a no-decision as the Rays topped the Pale Hose 5-4. Nevertheless, Archer remains one of the best pitching performers this season, boasting a 2.00 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP, and a 113/21 K/BB ratio in 90 innings. Among qualified starters in the American League, only Sonny Gray (1.74) and Dallas Keuchel (1.90) have a lower ERA than Archer.
