Derek Jeter is back in the Yankees’ lineup Sunday

Derek Jeter lasted just one game when he returned from ankle surgery on July 11. We’ll see if his 39-year-old body cooperates a little more this time.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the veteran shortstop has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and is batting second in the Yankees’ series finale against the Rays on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Jeter wound up sitting out for a little over two weeks with a strained quad that he suffered in his 2013 regular-season debut.

The Yankees enter play Sunday with an eight-game deficit behind the division-leading Rays in the American League East.

Yankees shortstops have hit .215/.269/.291 with two homers and 28 RBI in 104 games this year.
