The D-Train is back on the tracks: Jerry Crasnick reports that the Reds are recalling Dontrelle Willis and will have him start this Sunday against the Brewers.
When last we saw Willis, he was completing the finishing touches on a three-year span in which he struck out 82 batters and walked 119 in 123 1/3 innings. And a lot of those strikeouts were a function of guys seeing Willis’ slow and lifeless stuff and getting a bit too overconfident in hacking at it. In other words, even when he looked good for an inning or two, it was for all of the wrong reasons.

Willis’ numbers in Louisville have been a different story this year: 2.63 ERA and 67/20 strikeout to walk ratio in 75 1/3 innings. Given how poorly Edinson Volquez has done in the slot Willis is filling, he’s certainly worth a shot, no?
