Update (10:21 PM EST): David Ross broke up Finnegan’s no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning. It’s probably for the best, that way manager Bryan Price wasn’t forced to choose between letting Finnegan finish the game or preserve his health by bringing in a reliever. The Ross hit came on Finnegan’s 105th pitch.

Reds starter Brandon Finnegan is three innings away from completing a no-hitter at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. The lefty has yielded four walks and third baseman Eugenio Suarez committed an error, but otherwise, the Cubs haven’t been able to get anything going. Finnegan has also struck out four batters.
Finnegan helped himself out on offense with an RBI single in the fourth inning, the third of the three runs the Reds have scored on the evening against Cubs starter Jon Lester. Brandon Phillips brought in a run with a ground out in the first and Billy Hamilton hit a solo homer in the third.
