Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times says that although the Rays haven’t announced anything officially, prospect Jake Odorizzi is likely to replace the injured David Price in the starting rotation. The Rays placed their defending AL Cy Young award winner on the disabled list yesterday with a strained left triceps muscle, an injury they hope explains the lefty’s slow start -- he carries a 5.24 ERA in 55 innings of work.

Odorizzi, rated the #45 overall prospect entering this season, recently pitched in as part of a tandem no-hitter against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Overall, he has a 3.83 ERA in 44.2 innings with the Durham Bulls. The Rays acquired Odorizzi along with Wil Myers in the trade that sent James Shields and Wade Davis to the Royals.
