Jake Peavy set for next rehab start Thursday

Jake Peavy’s return from shoulder surgery was delayed just two weeks ago, but it’s now possible that he could make his season debut with the White Sox as soon as next week.

Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune reports that Peavy will make his next -- and potentially final -- minor league rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. Peavy was originally scheduled to start with Double-A Birmingham on Wednesday, but there doesn’t appear to be any significance to the change.

Peavy struck out eight while allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte this past Friday.

He’ll likely be reevaluated following Thursday’s outing, but Peavy’s projected return comes at an interesting time for the White Sox, as Phil Humber has a 2.67 ERA and 21/7 K/BB ratio over his first five starts with the White Sox this season. It’s a pretty nice problem to have.
