Baseball Almanac logged the heights of 15,258 players between 1876-2012. There were only 267 other players that shared the height of current White Sox shortstop Jimmy Rollins’ five feet, seven inches. In fact, those 5'7" or shorter comprised less than three percent of the entire pool of players.
White Sox shortstop prospect Tim Anderson is about a half-foot taller than Rollins, but Anderson idolized the longtime Phillie growing up, as Colleen Kane reported for the Chicago Tribune on Thursday. Rollins takes some pride in that.
Rollins signed with the White Sox earlier this week. He said he chose to take a minor league deal with the White Sox because he has the potential to win the club’s starting shortstop job. The 37-year-old is coming off of a disappointing year in which he hit .224/.285/.358 with 13 home runs and 41 RBI in 563 plate appearances with the Dodgers.
