White Sox rookie Jose Abreu is back from the disabled list after missing two-plus weeks with an ankle injury.
Abreu was off to a historic start to his career before the injury, smacking 15 homers and driving in 42 runs through 44 games. Even after missing more than two weeks of action in a season that’s only one-third completed he still ranks third among AL hitters in homers and sixth in RBIs.
Abreu, who signed a six-year, $68 million deal with the White Sox this offseason after defecting from Cuba at age 26, is returning to the lineup without first going on a minor-league rehab assignment.
