Kyle Farnsworth released by the Mets

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Mets have released reliever Kyle Farnsworth. The news is a bit shocking considering the Mets’ bullpen woes and that he had thus far compiled good results, sitting with a 3.18 ERA over 17 innings.

As ESPN’s Adam Rubin points out, however, Farnsworth signed an advance consent agreement with the Mets that enables them to pay him for 45 days instead of the full season, and Wednesday was the deadline. The Mets have called up Josh Edgin from Triple-A Las Vegas to take the vacant spot in the bullpen.

Farnsworth doesn’t sound too happy about the situation:

Mets release Farnsworth. “Hopefully I’ll find a team where I can play against this one.”
