Journeyman infielder Nick Green has agreed to re-sign with the Marlins on a minor-league deal, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Green’s deal includes an invitation to spring training and Frisaro writes that the 34-year-old “will have an excellent chance to make the team as a backup middle infielder.”

Green spent most of last season at Triple-A, where he hit .344 with 12 homers and a .996 OPS in 63 games, and also appeared in seven games for the Marlins. That huge production was far out of character for a guy with a .434 slugging percentage in 2,500 plate appearances at Triple-A and a .347 slugging percentage in 1,155 plate appearances in the majors. He’s a typical utility man.
