Marlins right fielder Mike Stanton tweaked his right hamstring Saturday when he tumbled near the first base bag while trying to leg out an infield single.
He has made just one pinch-hit appearance since, and is not in Florida’s starting lineup for Wednesday night’s series finale against the Mets.
But the young slugger should be back soon.
According to Matt Forman of the Miami Herald, Stanton ran sprints in shallow right field Wednesday and is aiming to return to action on Friday evening for the Marlins’ series opener at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park.
Stanton, who doesn’t turn 22 years old until November, has posted a superb .261/.353/.543 batting line with 32 home runs and 81 RBI in 539 plate appearances this season. He had 22 homers in 100 games last year.
