Must-Click link: video archiving every play in every baseball game

Great story in the New York Times today going behind the scenes at MLB Productions, where “loggers” -- the only people more obsessive than bloggers, it would seem -- watch and label every single play of every single baseball game with various descriptive tags so that video clips can be easily accessed later.

The cool part of the story is that fact that there appear to be tags for, like, everything. “Double play,” “curtain call,” “fist pump,” “animal.” Yeah, there’s “animal” for when squirrels run on the field and stuff. It’s pretty neat, actually.

In the comments: think of tags that probably don’t exist on their little system but that would have, at some time, been useful if the video archiving had always existed. I’ll throw out “hippie gets beatdown.
