There was some speculation that Pedro Feliciano would accept the Mets’ arbitration offer and ensure himself at least $3 million in 2011, but his agent has informed the team that he’ll decline the offer.
Given some of the contracts already handed out to relievers this offseason Feliciano should have little problem securing a multi-year deal, so turning down the arbitration offer makes sense.
He’s led the league in appearances for three straight seasons while posting a 3.44 ERA, and this year Feliciano became just the fifth pitcher in baseball history to appear in 90 or more games.
Feliciano is a Type B free agent, so the Mets will receive a compensatory draft pick between the first and second rounds if he signs elsewhere.
