Twins starter Phil Hughes will return from the disabled list to start on Tuesday against the Tigers, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports. He’ll be taking the place of Mike Pelfrey, whose next turn through the rotation will be skipped. Manager Paul Molitor said that Pelfrey hasn’t lost his rotation spot, however.
Hughes has been out since August 13 with a back injury. Over 23 starts, the right-hander has a 4.49 ERA with an 85/15 K/BB ratio in 144 1/3 innings.
Pelfrey has a 4.09 ERA with a 77/43 K/BB ratio in 152 innings spanning 27 starts.
