The Red Sox have acquired utilityman John McDonald from the Phillies for Minor League pitcher Nefi Ogando, tweets Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal. The Sox will be McDonald’s fourth team this season. He started with the Pirates, moved to the Indians, who then sent him to the Phillies. Overall, the 38-year-old has posted a disappointing .343 OPS in 68 plate appearances, but his defensive capabilities and versatility still give him value.
Ogando, 24, has spent the season with the Single-A Salem Red Sox. In 55 innings of relief, he posted a 4.09 ERA with mediocre strikeout and walk rates.
