The Red Sox are set to ink a $2.05 million deal with shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin of Taiwan, the Boston Globe reports.
Lin, a left-handed hitter, was rumored to be signing with the Yankees in 2010, but at 16 then, Taiwan declared him too young to turn pro. Now 18, he’s set to receive a bonus about six times as great as the one the Yankees were set to give him.
A speedster with little in the way of power potential, Lin is listed at 5'8" and 160 pounds. Back in April, MLB.com ranked him 18th in a list of this year’s top 20 international prospects, making him the lone Asian player on the list.
