The conventional wisdom is that Zack Greinke -- he of the history of anxiety disorder and a massive no-trade clause that keeps him from going to 20 teams -- would never agree to go to the Yankees. Too much pressure. Too much media. Too much everything. Jeff Passan at Yahoo!, however, talked to someone who thinks differently:
Passan says that the Yankees and Royals are talking about Greinke. If so, that could, at the very least, provide the Yankees with some breathing room if something unexpected happens and the Cliff Lee negotiations go sideways. It could also give then a chance to land Lee and Greinke, which would make everyone who isn’t a Yankees fan go totally crazy.
Though Kansas City starter Zack Greinke has a no-trade clause in his contract that includes the Yankees and other big-market teams, a source close to the right-hander suggested he would happily pitch anywhere that would provide a winning team.
“I wouldn’t put it past him to go to New York,” the source said. “I don’t think he’d rule out anybody. He says he likes New York. Especially because they’re winners. He wants to go to a team that wins. He’s got a list, but in the process, a lot of people have lists.”
