Pitcher Roberto Hernandez is still in the Dominican Republic and will be late to attend Astros’ camp due to visa issues, per a report from MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart. Hernandez has already thrown a bullpen in the D.R. in preparation.
Hernandez, 34, signed a minor league deal with the Astros last week. He’ll compete for a job in the starting rotation. If he makes the major league roster, whether as a starter or a swing man, he’ll earn a salary of $2.65 million.
The veteran right-hander had a bounce-back season with the Phillies, posting a 3.87 ERA over 121 innings before going to the Dodgers in an early August trade.
