Scott Kazmir could have opted out of his three-year, $48 million contract with the Dodgers -- which has two years and $32 million remaining -- but he chose not to, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Sherman adds that the Dodgers could draw trade interest in Kazmir given how lackluster the free agent starting pitching market is.
Kazmir, 32, made 26 starts for the Dodgers this past season, but he put up a meager 4.56 ERA with a 134/52 K/BB ratio in 136 1/3 innings. His walk and home run rates were both up compared o his previous three seasons.
Kazmir missed a month between August 23 and September 22 due tothoracic spine inflammation. Given that Kazmir also turns 33 years old in January, teams may be hesitant to part with a lot for the lefty in a trade.
