The Rays designate Ernesto Frieri for assignment

Ernesto Frieri
In the offseason the Rays made a scrap-heap pickup out of Ernesto Frieri, signing the former Angels closer to a one-year deal worth $800,000 in guaranteed money and another $2.35 million in potential incentives. The incentives did not work too well:

Frieri posted a 4.63 ERA over 23 and a third innings and struck out 19 while walking 11 and allowing 20 hits. That’s just way, way too many base runners for a reliever to allow.
