  • ARI Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Sewald tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Marlins on Saturday.
Sewald has allowed one run with seven strikeouts and one walk in seven appearances and converted all four of his save opportunities since coming off the injured list. Fantasy managers that held Sewald since the beginning of the year can’t ask for much more than what they’re getting right now.

Paul Sewald slammed the door on the Tigers on Sunday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run advantage.
The 33-year-old hurler picked up his third save of the season for his efforts. He made it look awfully easy in this one, needing just 10 pitches (nine strikes) to get Wenceel Perez on a fly ball, Spencer Torkelson on strikes and Javier Baez on a pop out to second base to end it. On the season, Sewald now holds a 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and a 5/1 K/BB ratio across his first five innings of work.

Paul Sewald tossed a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Reds to collect his second save of the season.
Sewald got the call to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth after Lourdes Gurriel Jr. put Arizona ahead in the top of the frame with a two-out RBI double. He got Mike Ford to ground out before coaxing a harmless pop up from Spencer Steer and a fly out from Jeimer Candelario to end the contest. The 33-year-old veteran stopper has converted both of his save chances to go along with a 2.25 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 4/1 K/BB ratio across four innings (four appearances) since returning from the injured list back on May 7.

Paul Sewald threw a scoreless inning to pick up a save Thursday against the Reds.
Sewald has his first save of the season after missing the first month-plus of the season with an oblique strain. The right-hander looked good while picking up the save with two strikeouts, no hits allowed and 8-of-11 offerings landing for strikes. Sewald should see the bulk of save chances for Arizona now that he’s back healthy.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Paul Sewald from the 15-day injured list.
Sewald has been sidelined since the beginning of the regular season with a left oblique strain. The 33-year-old veteran, who finished with a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP with both the Mariners and Diamondbacks last season, will slide back as the D-backs’ closer which puts an end to Kevin Ginkel’s brief stint in the role.

Paul Sewald (oblique) is expected to be activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Reds.
The 33-year-old right-hander has been shelved since the end of March due to a left oblique strain, but is finally ready to make his mark on the 2024 season. That means that Kevin Ginkel’s hold on the closer’s role will come to an end after the D’Backs’ weekend series against the Padres.

Paul Sewald (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
The Diamondbacks announced on Saturday that Sewald was having his rehab slowed a bit due to renewed soreness, but it sounds like it’s only a minor issue. He’s still probably going to need another appearance or two in rehab games before he’s cleared to return, but it’s not all doom and gloom for the Diamondbacks’ closer.

Paul Sewald (oblique) will not throw a scheduled bullpen session on Saturday due to renewed soreness in his oblique.
The Diamondbacks aren’t calling it a major setback for the right-hander, but they will slow down his rehab a bit to make sure not to push him. It initially looked as though Sewald could join the Diamondbacks’ bullpen in the coming days, but now it looks like Kevin Ginkel may be working the ninth inning for another week or so.

Paul Sewald (oblique) allowed an unearned run and recorded two outs on Tuesday in his minor league rehab debut for Triple-A Reno.
Sewald notched a pair of strikeouts and threw 21 pitches (14 strikes) in his first rehab outing. The 33-year-old veteran stopper figures to rejoin Arizona’s injury-depleted bullpen in the coming days after missing the opening month of the season recovering from a Grade 2 left oblique strain.

Paul Sewald (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Sewald has been able to throw bullpen sessions without issue, and now the 33-year-old will set off on his rehab assignment. The right-hander has missed all of the year with his Grade 2 left oblique strain, and once healthy, he should get the bulk of save chances for the Diamondbacks.
