Reid Detmers yielded two runs in four innings and struck out five versus the Guardians on Friday.
Detmers got 11 whiffs had a 34% CSW in the 64-pitch outing. He averaged 93.8 mph with his heater, which is right where he was when he was last starting games in 2024. His fastball jumped two mph as a reliever last year, but it wasn’t very realistic to expect that to stick around.

Reid Detmers worked three innings while allowing two runs in his start against the Dodgers on Sunday.
Detmers dealt with traffic throughout the spring outing, givving up five hits and two walks while striking out two. The 26-year-old southpaw is locked into a starting role to begin the season, but it’s hard to recommend Detmers as more than a streaming option to open the campaign.

Reid Detmers surrendered three runs over 1 2/3 innings on Monday in his Cactus League debut against the Rangers.
Detmers averaged just 93.7 mph with his four-seam fastball in his spring debut after averaging 95.8 mph in shorter bursts out of the bullpen last year. The diminished velocity is an expected byproduct of his return to a traditional starting role but it’s possible he’ll add a couple ticks in advance of the regular season. The 26-year-old former top prospect was tagged for three hits, including a two-run homer by journeyman backstop Danny Jansen in the opening frame. Detmers is an interesting late-round flyer for fantasy purposes given his strikeout upside and pedigree but it might take him a little while to regain his footing after pitching exclusively in relief last season.

Reid Detmers will make $2.625 million this year after losing his arbitration case with the Angels.
He filed at $2.925 million. Detmers would probably be making two or three times this by now if he’d been drafted by a competent organization six years ago. The left-hander will be returning to the rotation this year after posting a 3.96 ERA in 63 2/3 innings out of the bullpen last season. He’s not going to be eligible for free agency until after the 2028 season.

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki lists Reid Detmers alongside Yusei Kikuchi and José Soriano as locks for his team’s rotation.
That Detmers was returning to starting was clear, but it’s still interesting that he’s not even going to have to win a job this spring. Grayson Rodriguez, Alek Manoah, Jack Kochanowicz, Mitch Farris and Caden Dana are currently in the mix for the last two spots, with Rodriguez clearly in line to secure a place if he shows he’s healthy. Chase Silseth, who is out of options, is expected to be limited to relief work.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Saturday that Reid Detmers will enter next season as a starter.
The 26-year-old southpaw did a nice job out of the Halos’ bullpen in 2025, registering a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and an 80/25 K/BB ratio over 63 2/3 innings of work in 61 appearances. Ultimately, his ceiling is much higher for fantasy purposes if he’s pitching in the rotation as is his value to the Angels, so this seems like a win for everyone.

Reid Detmers has been diagnosed with elbow inflammation after undergoing an MRI that didn’t reveal any structural damage.
It’s an extremely positive update heading into the offseason after Detmers hit the injured list earlier this month. The 26-year-old former top prospect added that he would prefer to move back in to the rotation next season, but is open to staying in the bullpen where he blossomed into an excellent high-leverage specialist this season with a 3.96 ERA across 63 2/3 innings of work over 61 appearances.

Angels transferred LHP Reid Detmers to the 60-day injured list.
Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 26-year-old southpaw, but since he’s already lost for the season due to inflammation in his pitching elbow, the Angels wanted to utilize his spot on their 40-man roster. We’re still awaiting the results of Detmer’s MRI exam to determine the severity of his injury. There should be more clarity on his status before the weekend is through.

Angels placed LHP Reid Detmers on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.
Detmers was removed from Wednesday’s outing against the Twins due to discomfort. We still don’t have word yet on the results from his MRI exam, but it’s somewhat encouraging that it’s just being referred to as elbow inflammation at the moment. This will almost assuredly end the 26-year-old southpaw’s season. It’s a tough break as he finally established himself as a reliable bullpen arm this year, posting a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and an 80/25 K/BB ratio across 63 2/3 innings of work.

Reid Detmers was removed from Wednesday’s relief appearance against the Twins with left forearm discomfort.
Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery said afterwards that Detmers didn’t feel right and felt something in his forearm, which prompted his exit with a trainer. The 26-year-old former top prospect has blossomed into an excellent high-leverage specialist this season with a 3.96 ERA across 63 2/3 innings of work over 61 appearances. He’ll undergo a battery of tests, including an MRI, to determine the severity of the injury. An update on his status should come at some point later this week.
