  • MIN Point Guard #75
Timberwolves’ second-round pick Matteo Spagnolo will spend the 2022-23 season playing overseas, according to USA Today Rookie Wire’s Cody Taylor.
No surprise here, as Spagnolo was largely brought over for Summer League to get more acclimated to the NBA game. After spending last season in his native Italy playing for Vanoli Cremona, Spagnolo is searching for another team. According to Basketball News’ Orazio Cauchi, Dolomiti Energia Trento is a possible destination for the 19-year-old guard. Spagnolo staying overseas will not impact any fantasy basketball league, as it was expected that the Timberwolves would stash him for at least one season.

The Timberwolves have selected Matteo Spagnolo with the No. 50 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Spagnolo played in Italy during the 2021-22 season, where he averaged 12.2 points on 44.0% shooting, including an impressive 44.1% from deep. He did have as many turnovers (2.6) as assists (2.6), so questions about his NBA readiness persist. It’s unlikely he will be in the rotation his rookie year.
