Report: Nets trying to trade Thaddeus Young for highest first-round pick possible

Thaddeus Young said he was told he’d stay with the Nets.

He might want to check his source.

The 28-year-old Young has three years and $38,764,045 remaining on his contract, the final year a player option. He’s more ready to help now than a rookie drafted in that range. For teams whose windows are open, he could help by scoring inside, rebounding and staying in front of his man defensively.

The Nets could use a draft pick after trading so many to the Celtics. A young player on a low-paying contract for four years should be more appealing in Brooklyn than Young, who doesn’t move the needle enough for a team unlikely to make the playoffs anytime soon.

This is the type of trade that could benefit both teams – if there’s a team with a pick in the 20s that sees young as a fit. With multiple low first-rounders traded to lottery teams that probably wouldn’t covet Young for the same reason the Nets don’t, there’s a limited market.
