Tracy McGrady may retire if knee doesn’t improve

Tracy McGrady has high hopes for next season. Not just playing but contributing on a contender.

But what if his surgically-repaired knee won’t let that happen? Frank Isola of the New York Daily News asked just that.

“It’s been two years of just trying to put my body back together and get it where I need to be,” he said. “It’s a very important summer for me. If it don’t happen this summer we’re riding off into the sunset, baby.”

McGrady looked pedestrian with the Knicks, the explosive athleticism was gone, he shot just 39 percent and played limited minutes. He also had to miss games because of soreness in his left knee.

He’ll spend the summer rehabbing, then next fall someone will invite him in for a look. But he has a lot to prove if he is going to return to a key role on any NBA team.
