Alex Ovechkin missed the Washington Capitals’ skate this morning due to “personal reasons,” according to head coach Barry Trotz. The Caps’ captain will be a game-time decision for tonight’s home contest versus San Jose.
From the Washington Post:
Stanislav Galiev skated in Ovechkin’s place on the top line on Tuesday morning, but Trotz said that if Ovechkin were to miss the game, Marcus Johansson would likely move to the top line.
Galiev said he didn’t know what was going on. Because he skated in Ovechkin’s place at practice, teammates also asked him to lead the stretch at the end of the morning skate, as Ovechkin usually does.
The Caps kicked off their season Saturday with a 5-3 victory over New Jersey.
