It hasn’t been a great night for Alex Ovechkin, at least through two periods against the Edmonton Oilers.
Here’s some evidence: Ovechkin, who is, as we’ve all seen, very capable of ripping the puck, whiffed on a wrist shot in the Edmonton zone, leading to a turnover and fast break up the ice for Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
With speed down the right wing, Nugent-Hopkins beat Washington’s goalie Braden Holtby with a nice wrist shot of his own. The goal tied the game at two goals apiece. The Oilers took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Ovechkin, well, he went two full periods without a shot on goal.
