Geduev took a 1-0 lead after a 30-second passivity warning against Burroughs ended without the American scoring a point.

The match was thrice stopped by referee Uwe Manz thanks to a cut on Burroughs’ head.

Burroughs had dominated the 74kg weight class, winning world championships in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 in addition to his gold from London.

USA teammate Daniel Dennis suffered a decisive loss in his match, defeated 11-0 by Vladimir Dubov of Bulgaria.
